How Falcon Eye Technology Is Boosting Nigeria’s Maritime Defence – Navy

Abuja, Nigeria – May 20, 2025

The Nigerian Navy has reaffirmed the crucial role of the Falcon Eye Surveillance System in boosting Nigeria’s maritime defence and deterring illegal activities at sea. In a statement published by PRNigeria, Rear Admiral AO Ayo-Vaughan, the Director of Naval Information, described Falcon Eye as a vital tool in tackling piracy, oil theft, smuggling, and other maritime threats.

Criminal syndicates are no longer able to operate freely in our waters thanks to Falcon Eye’s real-time surveillance capabilities,” he said. “It empowers us to see, track, and respond faster and more effectively than ever before.

The system, developed and maintained by RTcom, integrates advanced coastal radars, satellite imagery, AIS data, EO/IR systems, and over-the-horizon radar to provide 24/7 situational awareness across Nigeria’s Exclusive Economic Zone. Operated by the Nigerian Navy under the supervision of the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), Falcon Eye enables joint operations, inter-agency coordination, and rapid maritime interdictions.

The Navy highlighted several recent operational successes driven by Falcon Eye, including the interception of suspicious vessels and the prevention of crude oil theft and maritime trafficking. These results demonstrate how cutting-edge surveillance technology directly contributes to national economic security and regional stability.
